Velia Lala’s Sandestin Art Socials

Interior Design

Check out this great article about an art social attended by myself and photographer, Amanda Sause, as posted on her blog. Of course my favorite photo is the last one of myself and the cutest puppy on the planet 🙂 And be sure to follow her blog as well! http://www.amandasausephotography.com/velia-lalas-sandestin-art-socials/

“I had the pleasure of attending one of Velia Lala’s art socials for Inside the Gates magazine.  We began the evening with a bowl of delicious duck gumbo, a variety of cheeses, and drinks.  Velia’s gumbo was amazing and the social time gave the attendees a chance to get to know one another before painting.  After, we headed to Velia’s lovely home studio and began painting.  Unlike other art socials I have attended, Velia actually teaches you how to paint.  Every attendee receives an inspirational picture with the outline sketched out on their canvas.  From there, you choose your colors and brushes.  Velia’s guidance is perfect.  She does not tell you exactly what to do, but instead guides you to a great final product that you are proud of.  I felt so accomplished and now my painting is beautifully displayed in my home.

I learned so much about painting at the social.  What I enjoyed the most was combining my knowledge of light in photography to a different medium.  There is a great connection between painting and photography.  I did not realize this until the social.

You can plan an art social with your friends by visiting Velia’s website at www.velialala.com.  She also sells her lovely art which is beautiful displayed throughout her home.  Her next social is on Monday, March 10th 2014 at 5:30.  Sign up now… you will not regret it!”Sandestin art social photographySandestin art social picturesAmanda Sause Photography Sandestin art social

Justin Gaffrey

Art that Inspires, Interior Design

SO, I purchased my first original Justin Gaffrey  painting. It was commissioned back in July. So, as you can imagine, I was ecstatic to get a call from the artist himself saying it was completed! As you probably already know, I’m a huge advocate of investing in original art, as it’s value only appreciates with time. I took some pictures of his work studio and gallery in Blue Mountain Beach this last time I was there. His art work is so unique and dimensional. If you’re ever in the area, I encourage you to stop by his gallery in the Seaside circle, or visit his studio in Blue Mountain Beach, where you might even get a glimpse of him painting.
Enjoy!

Cantley and Company

Interior Design

While in school, I had the pleasure of working for an NKBA accredited kitchen and bath design firm.  I learned so much about the ins and outs of kitchen design. They are located in downtown Birmingham, and do absolutely BEAUTIFUL and classic design work. A “Cantley kitchen” never goes out of style. The cabinets are made locally, so everything they do is custom. Take a look at some of their swoon-worthy design work. Much success in the future, Cyndy and Keith!

Allison Wickey

Art that Inspires, Interior Design

Another one of my favorite local artists  — check out the amazingly talented, Allison Wickey. She creates beautiful art, and I’ve had the pleasure of using her work for quite a few of my design jobs. She is so talented, and very diverse in subject matter.  Her style involves a roughly 13 step, 4 day process using venetian plaster, acrylic paint, glazes, and an orbital sander. If you’re local, go check out her new gallery in Seacrest Beach. Enjoy!

Mary Hong, Wired Glass

Art that Inspires, Interior Design

Mary Hong is a true artist in every sense of the word. She is truly a trendsetter, and her art blends with any style and taste. I use at least one “mary” on each of my design jobs these days. She is a great local SoWal artist, and she does custom pieces as well. Everything she does is magnificent! Not to mention, she was my first piece of original art when I moved into my new condo. The beautiful 4’x4′ canvas she did for me is directly over my sofa, and set the tone for the my entire living room.

For those of you SoWal locals.. she is now offering classes! Check out her website for a schedule.
Take a look at just some of the beautiful things she has created, and prepare to be amazed. GO MARY!
